PERSONALIZING YOUR CEREMONY

In addition to the Jewish customs of the wedding ceremony, why not add Rituals from the other cultures you bring to the marriage? Popular examples of Wedding Rituals from other cultures are:

-Christian – the Unity candle

-Eastern Orthodox – the crowning ceremony

-African American – jump the broom

-Chinese – tea ceremony

-Japanese – sake sharing ceremony

INTERFAITH WEDDING FASHION

Here is a fun way to show off your different traditions – through your clothes! The bride and groom can each wear the traditional wedding attire of her/his culture, or they can wear Western clothes during the ceremony then change into traditional clothing for the reception – or vice versa. A Scots/Irish groom might don a kilt in his family tartan, while a Chinese bride might wear a traditional red wedding dress.

THE WEDDING PROGRAM

The Wedding Program is a short booklet or "guide" to the wedding service. It is a great opportunity to explain all the details of your interfaith ceremony to guests who may be unfamiliar with certain traditions. The program can include translations of readings that won’t be in English and the significance of special symbols and rituals in your interfaith ceremony. It also makes a wonderful keepsake for the Bride and Groom, as well as a good opportunity for the couple to share their thoughts and feelings with their guests.
