Artist Statement for "Heirloom Quilt" Ketubah

An American quilt which merges warm, soothing colors, a turn-of-the-century quilt pattern, and traditional symbols of the Jewish home and wedding to create a meditative, balanced artpiece which invites introspection.

Key to symbols (clockwise from top left):

Huppah (Jewish wedding canopy)

Dove of peace

Torah scroll

"Aleph" (the first letter in the Hebrew alpha) and "Bet" (the first letter in the Hebrew Bible) symbolizing "beginnings"

Mogen David-- the Star of David

Intertwined rings symbolizing infinity, union, commitment to each other

Kiddish cup and Shabbat candles symbolizing celebration, joy, and rest
