Questions about the Ketubah Texts
Warrantees, Cancellation and Shipping General Information

  • What Hebrew text should we use?
  • If you are asking this question, the first step you should take is to read through my texts and the explanations I have provided. The second step you need to take is to call your Rabbi or officiant. Even if he/she is reform, you may not have complete flexibility with your choice. However, if you have found a text you love, you may be able to convince him/her to use it. This is especially true with some of the radical reinterpretation s of the traditional texts (i.e. Egalitarian Aramaic, Egalitarian Conservative, B'rit Ahuvim), which were all written by scholars as alternatives for the traditional Jewish wedding.

  • Do you provide proofs of the text for our Rabbi to look over?
  • I am happy to have your Rabbi look over your text. There are a few slight variations in the texts that some Rabbis want to change; plus it is always good to have the spellings of names verified before going to print. I prefer to fax the text to your Rabbi's office and ask him/her to send it back to me in the mail with his/her corrections. I do not charge extra for this service. However, proofing does add time to the process of creating a ketubah, so please plan in advance.

  • Are your texts copyrighted?
  • I have been given some wonderful, unique texts which can be viewed in my ketubah text section. Please feel free to use these with other artists or companies-- the authors created them to be disseminated and utilized. The one caveat is that they should not be published in an article or book without the authors' permission.

  • Can we use texts from another website?
  • You will have to contact the other website for permission. Sometimes they charge a small fee for this right.

  • Can we use texts that are published in a book?
  • My understanding is that these texts are available to everyone. However, if the printing is difficult to read, we may need help deciphering it.

  • Can we write our own English text? Can you translate it into Hebrew?
  • Yes! Yes! I love for couples to write their own English texts. This makes the ketubah even more meaningful and also more fun to write! There is an additional $50.00 fee for custom English texts, as long as you e-mail me the complete text. And, I have a translator if you want your text translated into beautiful, poetic Hebrew. The cost for that is $300.

  • Can we make minor changes to the English and Hebrew texts?
  • Changes to the English text are no problem. Just print out the text, make the changes, and e-mail me the complete text. Changes to the Hebrew texts have a $130 cost. If you want my translator to do the translation, he charges $50/ hour.

  • What names do we need to provide for the ketubah texts?
  • I need your Hebrew names and, if you are having an English text, your English names. Traditionally (i.e. with the Orthodox text), a Hebrew name is your name and your father's name. With all other texts, people include their mother's name. Please let me know if the bride wants her mother's name to be placed before her father's! Some people like to have their grandparents' names as well (an extra $50 fee). A modern tradition is to add your last names in Hebrew. In English, you can include any of the above. All of this should be sent to me on your personalization form.

  • What do we do if one of us (or one of our parents) does not have a Hebrew name?
  • Just write the English name that you want me to transliterate.

  • What if we don't know the spelling of the Hebrew name?
  • Do your best to write it phonetically in English and I will look it up in my dictionary of Hebrew and English first names.
