  • What size will our ketubah be?
  • You can choose any size and dimensions for your hand-made ketubah. The largest I have made (so far) is 27" X 37". The smallest is 16" X 20". Average size is 22" X 30".

The limited edition ketubahs come in two sizes. Classic is approximately 18 x 24 inches and Large is approximately 20 x 28 inches (although the proportions vary from one print to another). See dimensions for each individual print.

  • What medium will our ketubah be?
  • My hand-made ketubahs are primarily watercolor paint on 140 lb. Arches cold-pressed watercolor paper, with writing in Sharpie waterproof ink. I also write calligraphy on vegetable parchment paper with waterproof calligraphy ink. I have made one oil painting ketubah with writing scratched into the paint and the wood support (this was technically quite difficult and thus an expensive option for the client). I am also a woodcut artist and a pastel artist and I love collage, in case you want to get very creative!!

My limited edition ketubahs are created by a gyclee process of printing computer-generated images with archival, vibrant inks on archival, 100% acid-free watercolor paper. Thus they look and feel much like original watercolor paintings. So far I have prints that are reproductions of original watercolor, oil, and pastel paintings. I am growing my gallery of prints and would love to hear new ideas from you.

  • What colors can we choose?
  • The palette of your ketubah will reflect your tastes. We can use the colors of your wedding, your home, or your favorite art. I can use colors to create the mood you want: joyous, elegant, modern, traditional, etc. You can also point to colors that you like (i.e. the green at the bottom of ___'s ketubah; the purple that Rothko uses in this particular painting; the orange on this color swatch).

  • How do we decide what imagery to include?
  • The imagery and symbols of your ketubah should be meaningful to you. We can use wedding symbols and phrases to be used in your wedding, Jewish holidays you love to celebrate, places sacred to you, memories of your relationship, plans for your honeymoon, hobbies, vocations, your home, pets, etc. I suggest you look through my Personal Ketubahs gallery and my Art Ketubahs with Personal Symbols gallery (numbers 3 and 4) for ideas. The discussion that the two of you share to decide on imagery may be an important step in creating your marriage!

  • Will we see proofs? What will they look like?
  • When sketches are included in the process you choose (see ketubah calculator for price differences), I will send you original black and white drawing proofs of my work in progress. They will be smaller than the final by about 50%. I will ask you for feedback and often for answers to specific question so we can make final design decisions together. With "color field" ketubahs, I will send you (often by e-mail) several small watercolor sketches.

  • How long in advance should we contact you?
  • In the spring and summer, my schedule gets booked several months in advance. If you are planning a wedding during this season, I suggest you contact me as soon as you decide to work with me. In the fall and winter I have more flexibility and am willing to make a ketubah for a wedding 6 weeks away.

  • Can we see a sample of your work?
  • In order to keep my ketubahs affordable and personalized, I do not work through local Judaica retail stores. However, if you would like to see a sample of my work in person, I offer two options:
For Hand-Made Ketubahs, I can e-mail scans (or snail mail originals) of the SKETCHES that I make before I paint your ketubah (this may involve an additional fees.
For Limited-Edition Prints, I can mail you an 8 x 10 PROOF of your ketubah. The fee for this is $15.00/Proof. (The first $15.00 goes towards the cost of your order.)
